WSSDA’s Board Consultation Service provides an opportunity for school boards to improve their performance. It is intended to be part of ongoing development for continuous improvement by the board. The service builds upon the WSSDA Online Self-Assessment and assists boards with interpreting their responses and focusing attention on areas they would like to improve. WSSDA staff and consultants use a board meeting observation protocol developed with The BERC Group that helps identify strengths and weaknesses of the board’s work.
This service involves an on-going process of coaching boards for continuous improvement. The process includes:
- Board completes the online self-assessment
- WSSDA board consultant reviews self-assessment report
- Board consultant attends and observes a school board meeting
- Board receives written and oral feedback on the effectiveness and efficiency of their meeting
- Board chair and consultant have bi-monthly coaching phone calls about areas of board improvement
- Board completes the online self-assessment
- The board receives a summative report of their progress and opportunity for further reflection and action toward continuous improvement
