Serving on Your Local School Board: A Guide for Candidates
Introduction

Thank you for considering school board service. Public education is a promise to our children; a promise that they will be prepared for the challenge of being responsible citizens of our society. Serving your community as a school director — a member of the school board — means making a commitment to the children and being a part of honoring that promise.

The contributions of each board member are critical to the overall effectiveness of the board. With that in mind, this guide has been prepared to assist you in understanding the requirements and responsibilities of school board service and the important role each board member plays in school governance.
