WSSDA Hot Topics: Preparing Schools for a Flu Pandemic

INDEX TO OTHER HOT TOPICS

The Washington State School Directors’ Association has published a "Hot Topics" issue brief on preparing schools for a flu pandemic. With experts predicting a global outbreak of influenza, U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings has urged education communities to create pandemic preparedness and response plans for schools. To prepare for a potentially devastating health crisis, districts need to anticipate scenarios beyond the scope of their experience while working in close collaboration with local community partners.

WSSDA’s issue brief focuses on what school districts need to know to develop policies, procedures, operational plans and other strategies for dealing with a flu outbreak. Included in the discussion are lists of policy issues to consider and online resources for pandemic planning.
