Fletcher, Golden and Collins assume WSSDA leadership posts
Elections also held for WSSDA Board and Committee positions

Olympia — Connie Fletcher, Issaquah School Board member, has been installed as president of the Washington State School Directors’ Association for 2002. Fletcher, who served as president-elect of WSSDA during the past year, was sworn in during the association’s annual conference in Spokane this past week.

Serving with Fletcher as officers of the association will be Anne Golden of Walla Walla, who was elected to a one-year term as president-elect, and Sandy Collins of Kent, who was elected to a one-year term as vice president.

Fletcher has been a member of the Issaquah School Board for eight years, and has served as board chair and legislative representative. She has been active in a number of WSSDA committees and activities, mostly recently as chair of a special task force studying ways school directors can help reduce the achievement gap for poor and minority students. She also coordinated the 1998 WSSDA project "Assuring That All Children Are Successful," which identified best practices used by school districts to improve learning among low income students.

Fletcher succeeds Bill Williams of the North Thurston School Board. As immediate past president, Williams will continue to serve on the WSSDA Board of Directors during 2002.

Golden has been a member of the Walla Walla School Board for 14 years, and has served as board chair and legislative representative. She has been on the WSSDA Board of Directors for three years, and has served several years as chair of the WSSDA Legislative Committee and the Association’s Legislative Assembly. As president-elect, she will automatically become WSSDA president in 2003.

She has been a representative on the WSSDA Board of Directors for seven years. She has chaired the Annual Conference Planning Committee and the Resolutions Committee. She has also served on the Nominating and Urban Issues Committees, and the Executive Director Search Committee.
