Members of the WSSDA Federal
Relations Network visited Washington, D.C. in early February to participated in
the national FRN Conference, organized by the National School Boards
Association.
Washington's delegation,
made up of school directors from each of the state's nine
Congressional districts, took in a number of conference
presentations on current federal issues related to K-12 education,
including President Obama's budget proposals and plans for
reauthorizing the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (also known
as No Child Left Behind).
The delegation also
spent a day on Capitol Hill meeting with the state's Senators and
Representatives (or their staff). Some school board members
also met with officials of the U.S. Department of Education.
In this podcast, WSSDA
FRN Chair Patty Wood (Kelso) shares what the delegation learned
about ESEA and other pressing issues, and talks about messages
delivered to the Congressional delegation.
