Time to
submit Annual Conference session proposals
WSSDA’s Annual Conference is renowned for the quality of its workshops, thanks in large part to the thought and energy that school boards, districts and other organizations put into crafting session proposals. If you’ve got a successful program or experience you’d like to share with education leaders from around the state, consider submitting a session proposal for this year’s conference. WSSDA is now accepting presentation proposals online at
wssda.org/annual conference. The deadline is May 5. We look forward to hearing from you!
School
boards invited to submit proposals for WSSDA
positions
The grassroots process of establishing association positions on education issues is under way with the annual call for proposals from the WSSDA Resolutions and Legislative committees. The Legislative Committee is seeking proposals that would go to the 2007 Legislature; the Resolutions Committee is requesting proposals that would create or amend the association’s Permanent Positions. To find out how your school board can submit a proposal, go to the
Resolutions Committee page and the
Legislative Committee page. Legislative proposals are due June 2; proposals to the Resolutions Committee are due June 30.
2006 Legislative
Summary now available Speaking of legislation, WSSDA Governmental Relations Director Dan Steele has just completed the association’s annual Legislative Summary, providing detailed information on the state budget and a comprehensive list of education-related bills that passed and failed. The summary will be mailed in hard copy to all school board legislative representatives in the coming week. The summary is
also available online as a PDF file.
Settlement reached
in trust lands timber dispute A ten-year plan for logging timber on state trust lands in Western Washington has been in limbo for the past several months, tied up by a legal challenge from environmental groups. With millions of dollars of school construction revenue at stake, the parties reached agreement this past week on a settlement that will allow harvest planning to go forward while providing additional environmental protections.
