The Washington Lighthouse Project

Strengthening School Boards • Improving Student Learning

WSSDA is pleased to invite school boards to participate in the Washington Lighthouse Project, a program that brings a research-based approach to building board leadership for high levels of student achievement.

The Washington Lighthouse Project replicates board/superintendent training developed through a multi-state research effort led by the Iowa Association of School Boards. This research establishes a clear connection between school board leadership and student learning.

Lighthouse training helps school directors understand their crucial role in improving student achievement and how their role differs from those of administrators and staff. It underscores the importance of board beliefs about what can be accomplished. And it provides a comprehensive, best-practices approach to strengthening board governance to promote success for each student.

Participation in the Washington Lighthouse Project requires an investment of time, energy and resources on the part of the board/superintendent leadership team. The links at right provide more information about the project requirements and opportunities for involvement.

If you need additional information about the Washington Lighthouse Project, contact WSSDA Leadership Development Services Director Phil Gore (360.252.3020 or 800.562.8927).
