At its May meeting in Spokane, the WSSDA Board of Directors continued work on revising the association’s strategic plan. Facilitated by Berk Consulting, the board analyzed WSSDA’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats while also brainstorming potential “big ideas” to help shape the new plan.
At least a couple of themes emerged during the discussion. Board members emphasized the importance of maintaining a strong focus on the services, resources, and support school board members need to help foster positive student outcomes. They also stressed that the strategic plan should be practical and actionable — not simply a document that “sits on a shelf.”
The board’s work session builds on input gathered from school directors during WSSDA’s regional meetings this spring, where participants were asked to identify the greatest opportunities for WSSDA to make a difference.
Additional input will be collected through a June meeting between WSSDA staff and Berk Consulting, followed by a survey of all board members in early fall. Strategic planning discussions are expected to continue at least through the next three WSSDA Board meetings, with formal adoption of a new strategic plan targeted for December 2026.
