Held Each Spring
The Office of Native Education and the Washington State School Directors’ Association hold regional convenings of school directors and tribal leaders to gather, share, and dialog together to strengthen our government-to-government relationships and discuss matters critical to the support of our native students. While the focus may vary from year to year, topics covered may include tribal consultation requirements and training, the identification of native students, tribal sovereignty curriculum, data sharing, and student outcomes.
Complete Training Required for Some Districts
Tribal consultation is required for some districts by the federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). These trainings are produced and delivered by OSPI’s Office of Native Education. School directors, superintendents, and any other staff at school districts that are required to perform tribal consultation under Title VI of the federal ESSA must take and certify the completion of Strengthening Tribal Consultation training. View the list of affected districts here.
Attending the Convening will allow school board members and superintendents to meet this training requirement.
