New Leadership Academy Launches in February

By Sean Duke January 6, 2025

February 5 is day one of WSSDA’s new method for delivering professional learning opportunities for school directors: Leadership Academy.

Leadership Academy was designed with feedback from school directors. The academy bundles training into a condensed timeframe that will reoccur each winter (virtually) and summer (in-person).

The academy is an attempt to give school directors a predictable timeframe for receiving professional development opportunities during the year. This structured approach is meant to make it easier for directors to anticipate seasonal offerings and make it a little easier to budget their time for professional development opportunities.

“In the past, we’ve scheduled trainings from month to month,” said Heather Curl, WSSDA’s director of leadership development. “With our new approach, we want to take some of the guesswork out of planning your school director professional learning.”

What’s on Offer?

School directors can register for just one, two or all three trainings. Registering for all three triggers a 16% discount. The Feb. 6 and 8 trainings count towards the state’s professional development requirement for school board members on educational equity.
