Statewide and Recurring
Our year-long approach to offering training is structured to reach at least three regions across the state each year. Add in our on-demand option, and WSSDA’s annual training schedule provides the chance for cross-district collaboration and networking.
- Winter Leadership Academy
The winter Leadership Academy will always be held virtually approximately in February
- Summer Leadership Academy
The summer Leadership Academy will be held in-person. Like the WSSDA Annual Conference, the location will alternate between the eastern and western Washington to provide equitable access. We plan to provide two concurrent offerings on Friday afternoons and two concurrent offerings on Saturday mornings, approximately in August. For 2026, sessions will include legislatively required equity trainings, a financial training, and a training on serving as a Board Chair.
More Seasonal Training Opportunities
- Fall
Learning and networking abound at the WSSDA Annual Conference. You have access to various trainings and pre-conference workshops, including in-person Board Boot Camp.
- Spring
Starting in 2027, regional trainings will be held the day following a WSSDA Regional Meeting.
- On-Demand
Regardless of season, Board Boot Camp is also offered on demand.

Each school board might envision something different as successful outcomes for students. But for all boards, the fundamentals of effective governance, visionary leadership, and strategic advocacy are the same. These research-based fundamentals are outlined in the Washington School Board Standards and supported by our professional development opportunities, including those listed above.
