Membership
Once elected or appointed, school board members become WSSDA “members” by default. They are free to take as much or as little advantage of the networking, events, training, and resources WSSDA provides.
For some school directors, WSSDA is a year-round companion because they participate in its cyclical processes and learning opportunities. For others, they turn to WSSDA only when they feel the need, like for required trainings or to find governance resources.
In either case, WSSDA operates like a school director’s professional association, though it is also a state agency (without regulatory authority).
Self-Governance and Member Engagement
Annually, WSSDA members elect their own board of directors and members of standing committees. Members also participate in an annual review and revision of WSSDA’s platform. Using WSSDA’s legislative positions, members can amplify their district’s own priorities when engaging legislators.
Services
WSSDA provides services in three areas facilitated by a non-partisan staff of approximately 15 people organized around three branches. Below is each branch with a list of the services and supports they provide, with oversight from the WSSDA Board of Directors via WSSDA’s Action and Accountability Plan.
