Board Boot Camp
Board Boot Camp is the perfect place for new board members to start their journey. You’ll hear from trainers with extensive school board experience as they cover the basics of board service, including how to be an effective member of the superintendent-board team, how to be an effective advocate for students and families, and best practices for effective school board leadership. You’ll also connect with new board members from around the state while exploring scenarios you’re likely to encounter as a school director. A panel discussion called “What your board president and superintendent would love to tell you…but probably won’t is a favorite of many attendees. Superintendents and veteran school directors are encouraged to attend with their new board members for the best experience.
Law Conference
Join experienced school law attorneys who understand the key legal challenges facing public schools today. Learn about the changing legal environment, including new issues and what’s coming next. The expert speakers will help you identify potential problems so you can avoid investigations and expensive lawsuits in your district. Each year, the Law Conference offers new topics based on current trends and important issues. It’s an essential event for K-12 leaders that you won’t want to miss to stay informed and prepared!
Bridging the Gap: Building Real Connections Between Students and School Boards
When school board members and students connect in real, meaningful ways, amazing things happen. Trust grows, voices are heard, and students feel valued in decision-making, leading to more engagement. When board members truly listen, they gain fresh insights that lead to better decisions. Building these relationships isn’t just a nice idea—it’s the key to creating schools where everyone feels seen, heard, and invested in success. In this 4-hour workshop, Phil Boyte will bring school board members, educators, and students together—not as roles, but as people. Through interactive activities, practical strategies and real conversations, they’ll build trust, share experiences, and strengthen connections in a way that will pave the way to higher levels of collaboration.
