At its April meeting, the WSSDA Board unanimously selected Issaquah School Board President Harlan Gallinger to succeed Geoffery McAnalloy of Federal Way as a Director Area 2 representative. Gallinger is in his fourth year on the Issaquah board and previously served on the Peninsula School District Board from 2012-2015.
Earlier this year, McAnalloy relinquished his position on the board due to personal reasons. In his letter to the board, he stated: “I’ve wholeheartedly enjoyed my year on the board and wish nothing but the best for the board and WSSDA as a whole as you continue the powerful work that is being done for all 1.1 million scholars in the state of Washington.“
Following the resignation, a call for a successor went out to school board members in WSSDA’s Director Area 2. Gallinger and Nancy Merril of Enumclaw expressed interest in the position, so they were interviewed at the April board meeting. While both directors were highly regarded, the WSSDA Board ultimately selected Gallinger.
“All of us on the board would like to thank Nancy and Harlan for stepping forward,” said WSSDA Board President Aurora Flores. “WSSDA is a member-driven organization, so it is critical to have directors who are willing and able to extend their service to the state level.”
Gallinger’s term on the board will extend until the WSSDA Annual Conference. There, at the Director Area 2 caucus meeting, Gallinger’s spot on the board will be up for election.
