Teams from Bethel, Kittitas and West Valley School Districts will engage in the Student Innovation Challenge at WSSDA’s 2018 Annual Conference. Sponsored by the DLR Group, an architectural firm, the Student Innovation Challenge is an event that displays active learning, collaboration, and teamwork while challenging students to address real-world problems creatively. Conference attendees are welcome to participate by rolling up their sleeves and working side-by-side with the students as time allows.
Each team consists of four students and one educator chaperone. Teams are encouraged to engage convention attendees and exhibitors to solve their assigned problem. In addition, DLR Group professionals will serve as mentors and team guides throughout the process.
The Challenge occurs over a two-day period, simultaneously with the annual conference. Student teams will actively search for solutions to their assigned problem on day one, followed by a presentation of their solution and overall experience on day two.
The Challenge is designed to provide a visible example of both project-based and inquiry-based learning which allows board members, administrators and other conferencegoers a glimpse into modern pedagogy. The Challenge is also a demonstration of the fact that learning doesn’t just happen inside a classroom; it can occur anywhere.
See the solutions our students develop on Friday, Nov. 16 at 9:15 a.m. in room 206 C of the Spokane Convention Center.
