After applications and interviews, the WSSDA Nominating Committee has recommended Keith Clark of Central Valley School District and Rick Jansons of Richland School District for school directors to consider voting for as WSSDA’s next vice president.
The vice president position came open due to the incumbent’s resignation. Alex Ybarra of the Quincy School District resigned from the board after he was appointed to serve in the state Legislature starting January of 2019. Because Director Ybarra was from the east side of the Cascades, his successor must also be from the east side.
Following the announcement of the preliminary slate, a one-week nominations window is open for at-large candidates from east of the Cascade mountains. At-large candidates would be those who did not participate in the WSSDA Nominating Committee’s application process since all those interviewed were advanced by the committee.
For an at-large nominee to be added to the final slate of candidates, they must be nominated by at least one school director from five different school boards, including the nominee’s own board. Nominations should be emailed to WSSDA’s executive director by 4 p.m. on February 28.
The final slate of candidates will be announced March 1 with online voting to occur from March 21 through April 4 at 4 p.m. If there is no runoff, election results will be announced on April 5, 2019. To view the complete timeline, please visit WSSDA’s special election page.
