Voting has begun for the positions of president-elect and vice president of the Washington State School Directors’ Association (WSSDA) board. All school directors with an email on file were sent a message with a link to vote and instructions for casting their ballot. Paper instructions are going out to those who do not have an email on file with WSSDA. Voting will remain open until 5 p.m. on September 28.

The WSSDA Board officers represent all of Washington’s school directors at the state and federal levels while also helping to advance the association as it provides leadership, professional learning and services in governance, policy, and advocacy. All WSSDA members are encouraged to vote now!

Brenda Rogers, a committee nominee from Bethel School District, is running unopposed for president-elect. Running for vice president are Keith Clark, a committee nominee from Central Valley School District, and Alex Ybarra, an at-large nominee from Quincy School District. Each candidate has taken the time to come to WSSDA to answer questions on video to help members get to know them. Those videos, along with candidate statements, are accessible from WSSDA’s officer elections page.

Among current WSSDA Board officers, two will automatically advance to their next position. The current president-elect, Aurora Flores from Manson School District, will advance to become president. The current president, Marnie Maraldo of Issaquah School District, will take the position of immediate past president. In addition to officer positions, some of the other seats on the WSSDA Board are up for election. Those seats, filled by director area representatives whose positions expire this year, will be filled through a nomination and voting process during each director area’s caucus meeting at WSSDA’s Annual Conference.

The WSSDA Board is not the only body with open positions up for election. Approximately half of the seats on standing committees are up for election at each year’s annual conference; these include the Legislative Committee, Resolutions Committee, Nominating Committee and Interscholastic Activities Committee.

All of those elected will assume their roles following the conclusion of the WSSDA Annual Conference in November.
