Changes Coming to Open Public Meetings on June 1

Governor Inslee terminated and rescinded Proclamation 20-28.14, with the termination effective 12:01 AM on June 1, 2022. When the termination takes effect, the laws governing Washington’s open public meetings won’t simply revert to their pre-pandemic version. Instead, there will be a few changes based on the passage of House Bill (HB) 1329. Although HB 1329 revises the Open Public Meetings Act (OPMA), none of the changes are expected to be difficult for school districts to implement.

To assist school boards with responding to the actions of the governor and Legislature, the Washington State School Directors’ Association (WSSDA) has published more information about the changes, plus answers to frequently asked questions. To learn more, visit WSSDA’s OPMA Updates webpage.
